Useful Cardiff community contacts, hubs and local groups

Find council services, library hubs, volunteering routes and neighbourhood spaces across Cardiff.

Find the right council service

Cardiff Council is the starting point for local services such as waste collections, planning and council tax. Its Connect to Cardiff service provides general enquiries, and the council website directs residents towards the appropriate team. Use the service’s own current contact page when you need a response.

The Cardiff postal area reaches beyond the council boundary. Penarth, for example, is in the Vale of Glamorgan. Check the actual address before reporting a local issue, particularly when a business covers several nearby towns. That helps your enquiry reach the authority responsible for it.

Use your local hub or library

Cardiff’s hubs and libraries offer books and online services alongside advice, activities and help accessing council services. The council’s library page links to the current hub finder and event information. Choose a branch near you, then look at what that particular location provides.

Community centres and arts venues add other ways to meet people. Whitchurch Community Centre, Chapter in Canton and The Gate in Roath serve different needs. For a class, contact its organiser about joining; for room hire or building facilities, speak to the venue.

Find a volunteering role that fits

Cardiff Third Sector Council, known as C3SC, hosts the Cardiff Volunteer Centre. It helps people looking for roles and organisations recruiting volunteers. Its volunteering page explains how to search opportunities through Volunteering Wales and where to find current support sessions.

Think about the time you can offer, the area you can reach and the sort of work you would enjoy. A regular weekly role and occasional event help are different commitments. Tell the organisation what you can manage and ask about any training or checks needed for the role.
